Dax Shepard is not only an incredible actor, a survivor of drug and alcohol addiction, a phenomenal husband and father of two girls, but he is also a feminist as well! Dax has proclaimed he is a feminist in various television interviews and on social media. He is proud to say that he empowers women and thinks they should have more power within society. He believes women are incredibly talented and have just as many, if not more skills than men. If all men could believe in this equality, our world could go from a patriarchy to an egalitarian society in the future.
To start, Dax wants to empower women to their fullest extent and allow them to be whatever they want to be. He wants his daughters, Delta and Lincoln, to find confidence within themselves by giving them as many opportunities to do so as possible. Dax said that he tries to love his kids and give them opportunities to build their self-esteem. He wants his daughters to know that they can do anything they set their minds to and no societal pressure should ever limit them from their passions. Dax also believes the more empowered women are, the better off we all are. He believes that women are intelligent human beings who are unfairly marginalized. He understands living in a household full of women that their feelings and goals are not any less important than mens are. He knows that women have great abilities and are completely capable of being in leadership positions, such as directing films or being the lead of a film.
Dax also likes to push gender stereotypes and promote third wave feminism. Dax likes to push the stereotypes of masculinity with his humor. As a joke and to make a point, Dax tweeted "As a feminist, how can I be so sure santa claus isn't a woman? Maybe "Santa's on her way. She's bringing lots of toys and goodies..." He is using humor to make the point that women should not be counted out in stereotypically male-dominated positions. For example, women should not be excluded from becoming doctors, engineers, or other positions that are made up of men. Dax also promotes intersectionality, which is apart of third wave feminism. Dax had the idea to not marry his current wife, Kristin Bell, until same-sex marriage was legalized. He wanted to get married when it was legal for everyone to get married. He did not want to have a wedding in which his gay friends would feel sad that they could not get married as well. Dax essentially wants equal rights for every person.
Finally, Dax has mutual respect and love for his wife Kristin Bell, so much that he decided against a prenup. Before Dax and Kristin got married, Dax made more money than Kristin. Even so, he did not want to get a prenup because he said he would never treat her unfairly if they were to get a divorce. Currently, Kristin makes a higher amount of money than Dax and he is okay admitting that. Kristin has a net worth of 20 million while Dax has a net worth of 12 million. He does not try to hide this in order to protect his masculinity, but rather, he is proud of his wife and her accomplishments as an actress. He knows he is not less of a man for not being the primary breadwinner and that we need to let women pursue their goals.
Dax is a perfect example of what every husband should be like. Every husband should have unconditional love for his wife, support her in all her goals, empower his daughters to be confident, push gender stereotypes, and promote intersectionality. I believe that if all men had these values, our world could change for the better. We need to help men realize that they too can be feminists and it is not about just women empowerment. It is about the equality between both men and women, and women need the help of everyone to get justice.
